Subsurface Utility Engineering Services
(Including designating and locating services)
So-Deep's main service is mapping the locations of underground utilities. So-Deep uses the concepts of Utility Quality Levels we developed in 1990 and that are now the standard (ASCE/C-I 38-02) by the civil engineering profession, the FHWA, ASCE, AGC, and other national organizations. Mapping development consists of Utility Records Research, Designating (surface geophysical imaging), Locating (air-vacuum excavation), and Surveying/CADD data management functions. Individually or in combination, these functions produce maps and other data that are invaluable in managing project risks. These data lead to the effective use of our other subsurface utility engineering services below.
So-Deep's expert staff has experience with all types of projects, including highways, pipeline design, treatment and power plant upgrades, airport expansions, and industrial plant upgrades. We have the ability to determine to what extent the proposed improvements will impact the existing utilities. We prepare reports outlining Preliminary Utility Relocation Cost Estimates, Avoidance Alternatives, and Adjustments/Relocations Requirements.
RELOCATION DESIGN
When changes in design are not cost effective or possible, So-Deep has the experienced staff to design the relocations of existing utilities. Our staff has performed gas, water, sewer, communications, and power relocation designs for utility owners and public agencies.
So-Deep has many years of experience in coordinating the relocation of utilities, determining preliminary utility cost estimates for planning and budget purposes, prior rights, salvage value, relocation costs, easement requirements, plans & estimates, and special construction provisions for project and utility owners in accordance with federal, state, and local utility accommodation policies.
TRAINING
So-Deep provides training in all aspects of subsurface utility engineering and related fields. Topics include ASCE Standards for Utility Mapping and Investigations, Surface Geophysical Imaging, Damage Prevention Programs, and Utility and Plan Reading.
